Somatic Healing through Massage

Without agenda. Without judgment. Without pain.

Arly, a cis white female stands in a blue denim dress smiling direct to camera.

For over a decade, I’ve developed a style of hands-on-healing that helps my clients drop more fully into their bodies. When we prioritize a deeper somatic understanding - how we connect with and to ourselves using the body as a lens - profound and transformative shifts happen.

My style blends extensive course work in anatomy and physiology with intuitive guidance. Your body is always speaking. When we work together, I actively listen and let your systems inform how best to address however you present on the table that day.

Sessions are client led, which means that it is YOUR time on the table. Each visit we’ll address your needs, allowing plenty of space for you to arrive and integrate the work. After your massage, we have time to discuss any shifts you noticed, and I can offer feedback on your physical and emotional bodies. You will leave with suggestions/invitations that will help support the work we did in your own home practice.

If you still have questions after reviewing this page, please reach out! I know that massage and somatic work can be intimate, and I want you to feel confident in your choice to work with me.

  • I was trained in western modalities, so if you’ve had a Swedish massage, you’ll recognize the long, flowing strokes I use. I also use deep tissue techniques to help release any tension that is particularly tight or stubborn to move.

In our sessions we are working with both the physical body - muscle manipulation - and the emotional body - what is happening energetically.

My work is subtle and deep, gentle but effective.

Many clients report better sleep, an overall sense of calm, feeling more connected to their bodies, and pain/tension reduction after our sessions together.

  • All of our time together is client led. Once you arrive, we’ll take time to check in and go over any information you’d like me to know about how your body is showing up that day. Any observations you have about your physical or emotional bodies that you feel comfortable sharing will help lead our session.

    What does that mean?

“I’ve been spending a lot of time at my computer lately and my shoulders are really tense.”

“I just left my job, and I’m really excited for the new position I’m taking, but it’s a lot of change right now.”

“I just got back from a camping trip, and I feel so restored from being in nature! But my back isn’t thrilled about sleeping on the forest floor for 4 days in a row.”

“I have been feeling really anxious about the news, and my eating habits have really shifted.”

    “I’m just really tired.”

“I pulled a hamstring two days ago and that’s why I came in. My pain is really intense.”

“I’m just happy to be here!”

Based on that information, we’ll talk about what the session will look like, and then I’ll leave the room so you can undress and get on the table.

During the massage, I’ll be actively listening to the verbal and body-based cues you are giving me to lead the session. Unless you specifically ask for me to avoid an area, massage is full-body, addressing and incorporating all systems.

Once the massage is over, I’ll leave the room so you can begin to integrate the work. When you’re dressed, you’ll let me back in, and we’ll chat about what we both noticed during the session.

I’ll send you home with written suggestions for your physical and emotional bodies that will help you to incorporate the work.

    What does THAT look like?

Suggestions for your physical body can look like stretches, mindful movement, heat/ice, rest etc.

Suggestions for your emotional bodies can look like prompts to explore, reminders for self care, or somatically supportive activities. (“Where do I hold grief?” “Where can I make space for myself?” “How do I engage with my intuition?”)

If you have questions or clarifications about any of our work together after the session, you are always welcome to reach out via text, e-mail, or DM on Instagram.

*Contraindications are always appropriate to disclose. Injuries, new medications, any changes that I should be aware of help to inform the session and keep us both safe!

  • My practice is skin to skin, with a mix of long flowing strokes and specific work on knots or adhesions that are particularly tense or stubborn to move. I use coconut oil to provide slip, and to facilitate the work.

Keeping my style of practice in mind, MOST of my clients undress completely, though some do choose to leave their underwear on. (Because oil transfer is real, I recommend not wearing your favorite pair, or at least having Dawn on standby incase you do get oil on your waistband!) Either option is perfectly appropriate!

Anywhere we’re not actively working is completely covered by a sheet and blanket(s), aka "drapes". Draping allows us both to feel safe and secure in our session, ensuring you never feel exposed. I also use non-verbal cues - holds and quick but firm touches - to indicate where I'll be moving to underscore the draping-boundaries.

If you'd prefer to explore a style of somatic work that doesn't require you to undress, please let me know! We can work on areas of your body - head, feet, hands - that don’t require you to undress. I am happy to meet you where you're at - if undressing makes you uncomfortable, we can create a plan that accommodates that!

I can refer you to colleagues that practice modalities - like Thai massage - that allow for full body work without needing to undress at all.

Current clients are welcome to purchase gift certificates at any time in person at their sessions, too!

  • My studio is located in downtown Portland, ME, and parking can be tricky!

Street parking is available, and sometimes you are able to find a free spot. (Free as in open, and free as in no cost!) Most of the street parking does require you to feel comfortable parallel parking, though.

Passport Parking is the app Portland uses to pay our meters. It helps to have it downloaded on your phone prior to coming in!

    Apple Store: Passport Parking

    Android Store: Passport Parking

There are parking garages and lots available - you can find them using this map!

  • My schedule is available here! I work select Saturdays, and do not work on Sundays.

Please note that the online portal requires you to book 12 hours in advance.

If you are struggling to find a time that works for your schedule, please e-mail or text me directly. I know my calendar better than the computer, and I’m happy to fit you in if I can!

  • All sessions are by appointment only, and I do not take walk ins. As soon as you are aware that you can’t make your appointment, please text or e-mail! That way I can make that spot available to others.

I understand that emergencies arise - weather, illness, etc - and am pretty understanding when clients are unable to come in. I would rather you cancel than expose either of us to an unsafe situation. If you need to cancel, I treat it in good faith that you had an emergency that you need to attend to!

A cancellation does equate to a loss of income, though, especially if I am unable to find someone to take that spot, so I ask that you only cancel in a true emergency.

A no call/no show will result in an invoice that must be paid prior to rebooking.

Multiple cancellations, or no call/no shows will ultimately mean that I will not honor your appointments, a position neither of us want to be in.

  • Living in Maine means that we can be at the mercy of Mother Nature!

If the weather forecast makes travel conditions unsafe, please reach out no later than 9 am on the day of your appointment - the day or night before is also great - to see if you’d like to reschedule your session. This falls under the “emergency” cancellation policy, so don’t hesitate to speak up if you feel travel is unsafe!
